Soweto ritual killings: Hero's farewell for boys whose bodies found mutilated

Tebogo Letsie/City PressThe bereaved families of Nqobizitha Zulu and Tshiamo Rabanye , who fell victim to alleged ritual killings after their lifeless bodies were found mutilated in Soweto, lamented that their gruesome murder deprived the nation of future leaders.

The bodies of the two boys were found by community members of White City Jabavu in Rockville last week after they were reported missing. The funeral service befitting of heroes took place at Jabavu Stadium in Soweto on Friday, about 3km from where the bodies were discovered.Children targeted in ritual murders Zulu’s uncle Xolani said they were shattered as a family as the five-year-old showed signs that he would grow up to be a successful man. “This young man was fierce; you could see in his eyes that he was a soldier of life. I knew that he was my force. We will always love him, and I say that those who did this act must face the full might of the law.” The relatives of Nqobizitha Zulu and Tshiamo Rabanye shedding tears during the boys' funeral in Soweto.Their teacher, Jabulile Nhlabathi, said they both enjoyed doing their schoolwork and were never late for class.My boys must rest in peace. I really had high hopes for them. They were so respectful and intelligent. The funeral was also attended by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane. Last week, City Press reported that community members attributed the murders to ritual killings that have become prevalent in the area. Community member Phindile Ndlovu told City Press she agreed that acts of crime in the area were regular occurrences and had gotten worse since persistent power outages resulting from load shedding.“We continuously live in fear that criminals will break into our houses during blackouts. There have been numerous instances when I’ve reported hearing gunshots next to my house, but the police never take our cries seriously or help us patrol the area,” she lamented.This week, the police arrested a 50-year-old woman and her 39-year-old partner in connection with the murders of the two boys.Christ Embassy Church embroiled in a contract dispute“Following a forensic investigation at the boys’ homes, the team brought in two suspects for questioning.
