Soweto Derby long wait
There will be an unfamiliar long wait for the next Soweto derby league encounter with Orlando having won the last two.When the two biggest clubs on the local scene meet again in their next league match in the re-branded Betway Premiership , it will have been almost a year since the two clubs met in a battle for points.Pirates also won the reverse fixture on a 1-0 score, with Evidence Makgopa with the winner.
With the fixtures for the new season out, the next Soweto Derby will be played on Saturday, February 1, 2025.The first league meeting between the two clubs has traditionally been played from around end of October to beginning of December, with the return leg in March of the following year. However, with the league changing sponsorship from DStv to Betway, it has come with a delayed start to the league campaign, which will only get underway midway through September instead of early August as has been the tradition.After playing the first derby on February 1 next year, the two giants will square off again on May 3.
