Southwest took the Boeing 737 Max out of its schedules through Aug. 10, as the recertification of the planes after two fatal crashes continues to delay its return to service.

737 Max from its schedules until mid-August, meaning the low-cost carrier expects to go another peak summer season without the fuel-efficient planes.

After months of overly-optimistic forecasts from Boeing's former CEO Dennis Muilenburg, who was ousted in December, Boeing in January estimated the planes would be cleared to fly in mid-2020. Southwest, which operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet, pulled the planes from its schedules through Aug. 10, from a June 6 target previously.

That means the cancellation of about 371 weekday flights from peak schedules of 4,000 flights a day, the airline said.
