Updated: Apr. 06, 2022, 5:24 p.m. |South Alabama basketball coach Richie Riley is 75-50 in four seasons with the Jaguars. South Alabama basketball coach Richie Riley has agreed to a contract extension through the 2025-26 season, athletics director Joel Erdmann confirmed to AL.com on Wednesday.
The 39-year-old Riley recently completed his fourth season with the Jaguars, who went 21-12 and reached the semifinals of The Basketball Classic postseason tournament in 2021-22. He is 75-50 since joining the South Alabama program prior to the 2018-19 season, and 110-78 overall counting two seasons at Nicholls.
“After having been able to work with and observe Richie for an extended period of time, I’m very happy and, and very excited about the future of our basketball program,” Erdmann said. “In retrospect and looking at the impact of COVID and other circumstances outside of people’s control, I truly believe unquestionably our trajectory is in the right direction. Richie unquestionably has breathed energy into our basketball program and has engaged with our fan base.
South Alabama loses three key players from the 2021-22 squad who exhausted their eligibility: guards Charles Manning and Jay Jay Chandler and forward Kayo Gonçalves.
