The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has partnered with select bank branches across South Africa to allow citizens to apply for or renew smart ID cards and passports. This initiative aims to reduce queues at DHA branches and streamline the application process. Applicants can book appointments online through the eHomeAffairs platform and must be customers of the bank where they book their appointment. The process involves registering on the eHomeAffairs website, completing an application form, submitting a copy of their ID, and making a payment.

Since 2015, South Africa ns have been able to apply for or renew a smart ID card or passport at select bank branches across the country, eliminating the need for applicants to queue at Department of Home Affairs branches.

Moreover, the applicant must be a customer of the bank that owns the branch where they book their appointment. The system then presents users with an application form, in which many fields are pre-populated with your details. The payment system requires applicants to load their banking details on the eHomeAffairs portal and then complete the transaction through Internet or mobile banking.
