Bongile Ntombela, a South African woman stranded in Dubai due to an unpaid loan, successfully raised over R114,000 to settle her debt and break free from travel restrictions.
A South Africa n woman stuck in Dubai due to an unpaid loan, has reached her target and managed to raise over R114,000 to pay off her debt. Bongile Ntombela initially said she needed 25,000 dirhams (R124,681.12), however, the bank reduced her debt to 21,000 dirhams (R105,143.44). After collecting donations for four days, Ntombela closed her campaign with an amount sitting at R144,188. Ntombela explained that she has been stuck in Dubai after her company asked her to resign.
She was allowed to stay on their residence visa while looking for another job, but was unfortunately unsuccessful. A travel ban was imposed by the bank as she was unable to continue with her loan payments. The bank insisted that she pays off the loan before leaving the country. Ntombela expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to her campaign and thanked Clayson Monyela from the Department of International Relations and Co-operation for his help
