Statistics released by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu indicated a 5.1% overall decline in serious crimes between July and September 2024. Murder cases decreased by 5.8%, sexual offenses by 2.5%, and robbery with aggravating circumstances by 8.8%. However, residents in Randburg , north of Johannesburg , dispute these figures, stating that crime remains rampant and unaddressed.
Residents like Lebohang Kgotiane and e-hailing driver Peter Letsoalo argue that the conditions on the ground are worsening, with daily instances of violence and robbery. They express dissatisfaction with the lack of accountability and resolution in crime cases
