:Australian zinc miner New Century Resources received an unsolicited off-market takeover bid from its largest shareholder, South Africa's Sibanye-Stillwater, on Tuesday, sending its shares soaring.

Sibanye-Stillwater currently owns 19.9 per cent of New Century Resources. It also intends to acquire another 10.92 per cent of the company via the Australian stock exchange at or below the A$1.10 per share offer price. Sibanye-Stillwater has been concerned about the change in the strategic direction of New Century under current management, it said in a separate statement.
