MyBroadband analyzes the dwindling number of dedicated server providers in South Africa, highlighting the shift towards cloud hosting and the increasing cost of traditional solutions.

The number of dedicated server options available to South Africa n businesses has significantly decreased in the past year. As of January 2025, only three major local providers offer dedicated server products, a stark contrast to the six providers MyBroadband analyzed in February 2024. This decline in options highlights a crucial shift in the hosting landscape.

Establishing an online presence is paramount for businesses in today's digital age, and dedicated servers were once a popular choice for companies needing robust performance and control. However, the rise of cloud hosting services, which offer scalability, flexibility, and often cost-effectiveness, has presented a strong alternative. While cloud hosting can be more expensive depending on individual business needs, its advantages have led many providers to transition away from traditional dedicated server offerings.MyBroadband's analysis of managed dedicated server products in January 2025 focused on comparing specifications, traffic allowances, and pricing. The most affordable managed dedicated server product is offered by Xneelo, costing R1,640 per month. This package includes an Intel Xeon Quad Core 3.2GHz CPU, 8GB of RAM, 500GB of SSD storage, and 2TB of monthly traffic. A one-time setup fee of R685 also applies. Hetzner, a German provider, offers its MA80 package at R1,640 per month, featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU, 64GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage, along with unlimited monthly traffic. Afrihost's Managed Bronze package comes in at R2,050 per month, offering an Intel Xeon Quad Core 3.20GHz CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 2TB of HDD storage. Host Africa's D1 Server is the most expensive option listed at R2,170 per month, boasting an Intel Xeon Quad Core 3.60GHz CPU, 16GB of RAM, 1TB of SSD storage, and unlimited monthly traffic.
