The incident, which occurred after Mkhize was reportedly denied a drink by the cabin crew, has sparked outrage and widespread attention on social media.Mkhize, a brand manager for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), is accused of physically confronting the crew member and making offensive remarks after the alleged refusal of service.SAHRC Chairperson Chris Nissen confirmed that the commission had launched an investigation into the incident, following numerous public inquiries.

Nissen acknowledged that political parties had become involved and that criminal charges had been laid against Mkhize. While respecting the ongoing police investigation, he stressed that aviation regulations had been breached, putting passengers at risk.‘We strongly condemn the incident, which not only posed a physical danger to passengers but also involved disturbing racial and class-based comments,’ Nissen said. ‘The SAHRC will refer this matter to the Equality Court, and we urge the public to refrain from making comments that undermine human dignity.’ The commission urged individuals who believe their rights or dignity have been violated to contact the SAHRC. Nissen reaffirmed that all cases of human rights violations would be sent to the appropriate authority, including the Equality Court if necessary.The SABC also condemned the incident. The broadcaster’s head of communications, Mmoni Seapolelo stated that the matter is being handled according to internal policies, but refrained from confirming whether Mkhize is still employed by the organisation. ‘We are addressing this matter with the seriousness it deserves, while respecting the rights of all parties involved,’ Seapolelo said, without disclosing further details.Meanwhile, Western Cape police confirmed that the flight attendant who was attacked by Mkhize has filed a case of assault and crimen injuria at the Bishop Lavis police station.Furthermore, Nobuntu Mkhize has been added to FlySafair’s no-fly lis
