Ibanomonde Ngema , a South African activist living with HIV , will take control of Charlize Theron ’s Instagram account on World AIDS Day, December 1st. This initiative, announced by UNAIDS , aims to highlight the experiences of young people with HIV and to combat the stigma surrounding the virus. Born with HIV , Ngema (21) dedicates her life to advocacy, focusing on dispelling myths and reducing discrimination against those living with HIV .
Theron, a South African-born, Oscar-winning actress and UN Messenger of Peace, has long championed addressing systemic inequalities that disproportionately affect young women and girls. Theron emphasized the importance of ending AIDS by dismantling harmful patterns of stigma and discrimination through protective laws, policies, and practices. The announcement coincided with a UNAIDS report which highlighted that women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa made up 62% of new HIV infections last year. Ngema expressed admiration for Theron, saying, 'I’ve always loved watching Charlize on the big screen and admire how she uses her influence to help others, especially in South Africa.
