Transport minister Fikile Mbalula said that South Africa could launch its electronic driver’s licence within the next three years.
Transport minister Fikile Mbalula has revealed that his department plans to introduce a digital driver’s licence card in the 2024/25 financial year.
“The introduction of the digital driving licence will be preceded by the introduction of the new driving licence card, which is set to be launched in October 2023,” he wrote. Mbalula said that the DLCA — which currently produces South Africa’s driver’s licences — would be responsible for the eDL project.
