Wayne Kennedy replaces former deputy fire chief Matt Barney, who retired last August after 26 years of service in Sooke.
Wayne Kennedy joins the fire rescue unit after 26 years with the North Vancouver service.
In his new role, Kennedy will lead Sooke Fire Rescue with Chief Ted Ruiter and oversee the District of Sooke’s Emergency Management Program. Kennedy began his career in North Vancouver in February 1997 where he served as a firefighter before being promoted to assistant chief of operations in 2009 and then deputy fire chief in 2013.He replaces former deputy fire chief Matt Barney, who retired last August after 26 years of service in Sooke.
In a statement, Kennedy said it was a privilege to work with the men and women of the Sooke Fire Rescue “who wear the uniform with pride and professionalism, and deliver a diverse service with tremendous compassion and care to the community. “There are many exciting initiatives moving ahead and I look forward to contributing to this amazing team,” Kennedy said.
