Julius Poppinga, a junior football player at Westlake High School (Calif.), died Wednesday.
Poppinga suffered a severe asthma attack last week, according to the publication. The report added that he dealt with a collapsed lung while hospitalized that he did not recover from.
The 17-year-old junior attended Westlake High School in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and was a two-way football player. He also played lacrosse. The Westlake High School community is mourning the death of 17-year-old varsity football player Julius Poppinga.“On behalf of the entire Westlake High School community, we send our deepest condolences to Julius’ family, friends, teammates and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and interacting with him,” Principal Jason Branham said in an email sent out to the school community, according to the Ventura County Star.
