Initiated in January 2022, the construction of the PTI has an anticipated completion date of May 2024, assuming no unforeseen delays.Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s mayoral committee member for urban mobility, expressed his enthusiasm during the site visit, noting, ‘As we wrap up Transport Month, we are excited to see that the construction of the new Somerset West public transport interchange is going according to plan. Key structures are already standing.
The Somerset West PTI is located on the corner of Andries Pretorius Street and Victoria Street, positioning it as a central hub for the community.Upon completion, it is projected to serve around 1 000 commuters and facilitate the operation of approximately 300 minibus taxis on a daily basis during the weekdays.
