It's a federal crime to kill bald eagles under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, punishable by up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Indiana Conservation Officers are asking for the public's help as they investigate the fatal shooting of a bald eagle.
Police said the eagle had recently suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was found near the White River in the area of Dixie Highway, just south of Bedford, which is 75 miles south of Indianapolis.
