The Courtenay Fire Department was called about 2:30 a.m. Monday and arrived to find the one-storey Langlois Road home fully consumed by fire
A Courtenay home was destroyed by fire early Monday but the lone occupant was able to get out safely, and fire crews kept the blaze from spreading into the forest.
The Courtenay Fire Department was called about 2:30 a.m. and arrived to find the one-storey Langlois Road home “fully consumed by fire,” said Fire Chief Kurt MacDonald. “It did light some of the cedar trees and bush on fire in and around the structure, but our crews were able to knock it down and keep it under control, keep it from spreading through the forested area,” he said. The home’s resident told fire crews that when he woke up to the fire, he saw it in the ceiling of his living room. “That would basically be the area of origin,” the fire chief said.jbell@timescolonist.
