Netflix has released a brand new Society of the Snow teaser trailer for the upcoming biographical drama from J.A. Bayona.

This comes after the survival thriller’s world premiere at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival. It has also been selected to become Spain’s official entry for the Best International Film category at the 2024 Academy Awards.Society of the Snow is currently scheduled to make its debut in select theaters this December. It will then be followed by its streaming release on January 4, 2024 exclusively on Netflix.
“In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes,” reads the synopsis. “Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.”
Society of the Snow is directed by J.A. Bayona from a screenplay he co-wrote with Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques, and Nicolás Casariego. It is based on the memoir by Pablo Vierci, who was one of the survivors that was rescued.
The film is produced by Bayona, Belén Atienza, and Sandra Hermida, with Vierci serving as an associate producer. The creative team consists of production designer Alain Bainée, cinematographer Pedro Luque Briozzo SCU, editors Jaume Martí and Andrés Gil, and composer Michael Giacchino.Maggie Dela Paz has been writing about the movie and TV industry for more than four years now.
