Hundreds of fans arrived at B.C. Place on Sunday only to learn the soccer match between Canada and Panama had been cancelled over a dispute between players and Canada Soccer.
Some came from across Canada to see men’s national team play friendly in World Cup prepThe Linning family from Port Alberni B.C. travelled nearly four hours to Vancouver to see the Canadian men's national soccer team play Panama in a friendly match as part of its World Cup preparations on Sunday June 5, 2022.
"I mean we just got to the World Cup, a match in Vancouver and we get to finally see some excitement for the beautiful game in our country and this is what happens?" said Danny Bromley, who was at the downtown arena with his young son to see the match. But the men's soccer team refused to play the World Cup warm-up match because of a contract dispute between the players and the sport's national governing body."It's just not a good look," said Bromley.
After learning the game was cancelled, the family sat in front of B.C. Place with their soccer jerseys and signs they had brought to cheer on the team.Hundreds of fans arrived at B.C.
