Danny Jordaan, president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), is requesting the removal of a bail condition requiring him to inform the investigating officer 72 hours before any travel. Jordaan's legal counsel argues that his international duties, including his role as a special advisor to the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), often necessitate short-notice travel arrangements. The state has opposed the request, and the magistrate has indicated a need to review the application thoroughly.
JOHANNESBURG - Soccer boss Danny Jordaan has now asked the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court to remove the bail condition that requires him to alert the investigating officer 72 hours before he travels.
Jordaan was granted bail of R20,000 last year but was allowed to retain his passport to execute his duties as president of the South African Football Association .SAFA boss Danny Jordaan's fraud case posponed to August Legal counsel for Jordaan says it is not always possible to abide by the bail condition that requires the accused to provide the investigating officer with a written itinerary three days before travel."He remains a special advisor to the president of CAF and to the executive, and sometimes arrangements have to be made at short notice and it's not possible to stick to that 72-hour arrangement. He’s not going to go anywhere and it should just be removed.
The State opposed the request while Magistrate Sheron Soko-Rantao objected to the accused’s failure to file a proper application before the court. The bail application was heard by a different presiding officer. Soko-Rantao says she would need to familiarise herself with the application and the reasons that led to the bail condition.
