Family and friends are growing increasingly worried after the disappearance of a community leader known for her advocacy on behalf of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

Heather Bear, Fourth Vice Chief with FSIN, said the organization is devastated by Walker’s disappearance and said she has been “instrumental” in raising awareness about the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, men and boys. Police have asked the public to “refrain from coming down to this area because it hampers the search efforts” and are also asking that no private drones be flown in the area.

Bear said despite the police’s initial comments, they are not ruling out foul play, citing a history of Walker speaking about experiencing domestic violence. “She went to regarding past domestic violence and there were files open, but nothing was done,” Sunchild said.
