The SNP’s treasurer, Colin Beattie, has been arrested by police in connection with the ongoing investigation into the party’s finances.
In a statement, the force said: “A 71-year-old man has today, Tuesday, 18 April 2023, been arrested as a suspect in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the Scottish National Party. “The matter is active for the purposes of the Contempt of Court Act 1981 and the public are therefore advised to exercise caution if discussing it on social media.Mr Beattie’s arrest comes less than two weeks after Nicola Sturgeon’s husband, Peter Murrell, was also arrested by police investigating the SNP’s finances.
He was arrested at the home he shares with Ms Sturgeon in Glasgow on 5 April, with the property later being extensively searched by police, who erected a forensic tent on the front driveway.
