A 25\u002Dyear\u002Dold snowmobiler who struck a long, intertwined steel cable that extended across a river near Rimbey died in hospital, RCMP said.

The woman was snowmobiling with her spouse and friends who were riding two other snowmobiles on the Blindman River near Township Road 441 and Range Road 15 northeast of Rimbey. “We believe the cable has been there for some time, and we don’t necessarily believe it was put there to harm somebody,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. “There could be legal ramifications because of the placement of that cable across a waterway. That’s what we’re investigating — if there’s any criminal element that might involve that cable.”Article content
