As much as 40 centimetres forecast to fall by Wednesday

In a statement issued Monday, Environment Canada warned that a "long period of heavy snow" is expected to deliver as much as 40 centimetres to the Central Interior over the next few days.

"A Pacific frontal system will stall over the B.C. Interior giving a prolonged period of snow. Light snow from the system will become heavier tonight and will persist through Wednesday," the statement says."Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. "Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

The warning covers communities along Highway 16 from Fraser Lake to McBride including Vanderhoof and Prince George, communities along Highway 97 from McLeese Lake to Bear Lake including Quesnel, as well as Fort St. James and the Northern Cariboo Mountains including Wells and Barkerville.
