The northern half of the state could see at least a coating of snow, but only Sussex County, where the highest snowfall totals of 4 to 6 inches are expected, will begin and end the storm with snow falling. The rest of northern New Jersey will see a wintery mix of rain and snow, while southern New Jersey will once again just see rain, theDue to the volatile rain-snow mix, the weather service was less confident of snowfall total forecasts for areas outside of Sussex County.
While the precipitation might briefly end as snow across much of the state, most of Hunterdon and Somerset, all of Middlesex and part of Monmouth counties should wind up with less than a half-inch of accumulation, the weather service said. In Bergen, Passaic and western Essex, a winter weather advisory kicks at 6 p.m. Friday and is scheduled to end at 1 p.m. Saturday. The weather service’s New York office, which covers those counties, says the storm will end with 3 to 5 inches of snow on the ground in those counties.
The National Weather Service is calling for widespread snowfall amounts of 1 to 6 inches of snow through the northern half of New Jersey from a winter storm expected to hit Friday and last into Saturday morning. A second winter storm could bring similar snow amounts on Sunday night into Monday. There's also a threat of coastal flooding through the weekend.
