- with local residents told to keep windows and doors closed. Multiple fire engines were called to the scene of the fire which is understood to be at the Old Iron Works on Crompton Road, Ilkeston.
The fire was first reported late on Wednesday evening and smoke continues to billow from the building on Thursday morning. At 11.30pm on Wednesday night, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We currently have six appliances and one Aerial Ladder Platform in attendance at a building fire on Crompton RoadResidents in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke plume. This incident is likely to be protracted."
On Facebook, a spokesperson for Stapleford Fire Station said at 10pm: "We are currently in attendance at a building fire on Crompton Road Ilkeston. Five fire crews, an aerial ladder platform and support crew and command support unit with support crew are in attendance. Smoke is visible across Stapleford.This is a live, breaking news incident.
