Seven months ago at a rally in Cullman, Brooks explained that Republicans needed to move on to the next elections rather than litigating 2020 results that can’t be changed. He was met with boos, and Trump’s fragile ego never truly recovered from the blow.
After two separate polls showed Brooks well behind Britt and Durant, Trump didn’t blink as he put the knife in Brooks’s candidacy. Apparently telling the truth and falling behind was a bridge too far. If Brooks isn’t loyal enough to earn Trump’s support, what makes any Republican believe that he will stand by them when the going gets tough?Mike Durant has already reimagined his priorities as a love letter to Trump. “Election integrity and the results of the 2020 election are the highest priority issues across the country right now,” Durant announced, “as we confront rising inflation, sky high gas prices and our diminished standing across the world.
Durant is new at the Trump affection game, so voters might expect it to be a little awkward for him. According to commentator CJ Pearson, Durant was non-committal about focusing on election integrity when asked in December 2021. “Well, if you’ll notice when I talked about what my priorities were, I didn’t list that,” said Durant. “The timing is right for us to focus on really important things. Let’s focus on things that really matter.
