Well overdue, no?!
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland has identified the companies it wants to hire to replace coin-operated parking meters with smart meters that can accept credit cards. Those costs would include an estimated 600 meters that would each cover multiple parking spaces, and 100 single-space meters. They would be placed around downtown and in neighborhoods across the city, the release stated.
ParkMobile’s platform would allow for credit card payments through a phone app, via text message, or by scanning a QR code, the release stated. Chief Operating Officer Bonnie Teeuwen said the new meters would make parking enforcement more efficient. Between better enforcement, and the hope that more people will be willing to pay for parking if meters accept credit cards, the city expects to see an increase in parking revenue, Teeuwen said in the release.
