CAPE TOWN - Former health minister Zweli Mkhize has on Tuesday been cleared by Parliament for allegedly breaching its code of ethics and for receiving benefits from Digital Vibes.

Mkhize - who is still an MP - faced two complaints before the ethics committee for allegedly receiving benefits for maintenance work at his Bryanston property. The other complaint is related to his son who is said to have received R460,000 from the company.

Despite his SIU investigation, Mkhize also face a parliamentary ethics probe, which focused on his conflicts as former health minister. But the registrar of members’ interests said an analysis of the documentary evidence, found that Mkhize’s son was an adult and not an “immediate” family member like a spouse or dependent.

DA MP Siviwe Gwarube who made the complaint against Mkhize, said she was disappointed at the findings. Gwarube also said Mkhize’s conduct was worthy of investigation and questioned how he still remained a member of Parliament despite the findings against him.
