A minor 2.6-magnitude earthquake early Thursday was “weakly felt” across Greater Victoria, says Natural Resources Canada seismologist John Cassidy.
The quake was recorded about 4:15 a.m. and was approximately 26 kilometres deep. It was centred about offshore, about nine kilometres east of Oak Bay. Cassidy said the temblor was “not unusual for this area” and was felt from Sooke to Victoria to Sidney. “Some of the reports simply said it felt like the rumbling of a truck passing by, which is quite a common description for a small earthquake,” he said.
