Almost two years after Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear was assassinated, a colleague had to step into the witness stand in the Western Cape High Court on Monday to vouch for his work in taking down a statement from one of the men accused of the murder of the lawyer, Pete Mihalik.

Nkosinathi Khumalo alleged via his new lawyer, Pieter Nel, that he was severely tortured, with Kinnear watching the final session of the alleged torture on 30 October 2019 at a private house.
