A new Skull Island trailer arrives, revealing Kong as battles a ton of monsters in Netflix's MonsterVerse show, including ones from his 2017 movie.
The King of the Monsters is facing down a number of new and familiar creatures in the Skull Island trailer. Created by Love and Monsters' Brian Duffield, the Netflix animated series finds a group of explorers incidentally stranded on the eponymous island in the hopes of finding one of their own, only to fight to survive the various dangers present, including large monsters and mercenaries with mysterious motives.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT With just under two weeks remaining until its premiere, Netflix has released a new Skull Island trailer. The trailer, as seen above, offers more footage of Kong battling many new and familiar creatures from the MonsterVerse, namely that of the Skullcrawlers from Kong: Skull Island. The video also offers a deeper look at the human characters of the Netflix show, and their reason for winding up on the terrifying island.
How Skull Island Is Connected To The MonsterVerse Between the first teaser and the trailer above, Skull Island's larger ties to the MonsterVerse continue to remain a mystery. The show was previously promoroted as a "continuation" of the Legendary kaiju franchise, which currently consists of two Godzilla movies, Kong: Skull Island, the 2021 crossover Godzilla vs. Kong and next year's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Considering Kong is still living on the landmass in the show, it seems likely Skull Island will take place prior to the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, which saw him transported away to face off against the other iconic kaiju. It could also go a long way to helping explain how Monarch properly established a base on Skull Island to monitor Kong, with some of the human characters being a part of the mysterious organization and using their time of surviving to inform this construction.
