Six men, aged between 63 and 77, are under probe for their suspected involvement in illegal horse betting activities.
The police said in a statement that on Mar 17, officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted operations against illegal gambling activities at Yishun Avenue 5.
A 63-year-old man was arrested for allegedly acting as a bookmaker and five men, aged between 69 and 77, are assisting in investigations for allegedly placing bets with the bookmaker.Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations can be fined up to $200,000 and jailed for up to five years.
Any person who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider can be fined up to $10,000, get up to six months' jail, or both. "The police take a serious view against all forms of illegal betting activities and members of the public are advised to steer clear of such activities," the police said.
"Individuals found to be involved in such illicit activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law."
