A search is underway off the coast of Massachusetts after an air ambulance carrying six people disappeared while travelling from Bermuda to Boston,The US Coast Guard Northeast District confirmed that it had launched a search for the missing aircraft, with crews looking for the jet in waters near Nantucket.
Air and surface teams are involved in the operation as authorities work to establish what happened during the overnight flight.
‘The US Coast Guard Northeast District is searching Saturday for a missing medical transport aircraft with six people aboard after the aircraft lost contact while traveling from Bermuda to Boston,’Canada’s Transport Minister, Steven MacKinnon, said four Canadian nationals were among those on board. Flight-tracking data has also raised questions about the aircraft’s final moments before communication was lost.
According to FlightAware, the jet had been cruising at approximately 24 000 feet for much of its journey before descending around 13 000 feet in roughly two minutes. The reported drop in altitude occurred shortly before air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft.
However, the available flight-tracking information does not establish why the plane descended or what caused the loss of communication.
