SIU mulling legal options to continue Telkom probe

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has vowed to return to court after s High Court judgment which declared as invalid the unit’s authorisation to investigate the affairs of Telkom. ECRNewsWatch Telkom

President Cyril Ramaphosa authorised the unit to investigate allegations of serious maladministration, malpractice, and possible corruption at the telecommunications company.

But the High Court in Pretoria found that Telkom is not a state institution and the SIU cannot not probe its affairs. The SIU's Kaizer Kganyago says they need to get clarity on what constitutes a state of institution following the court ruling. "If this is not clarified, it may create an unwelcome precedent that some public institution may inadvertently be shielded from investigation by the SIU.”
