Harry Kane's three goals at Euro 2024 is seemingly not enough for Rene Meulensteen, who believes Gareth Southgate could drop the ex-Tottenham man against Spain
Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has astonishingly suggested benching Harry Kane for England's Euro 2024 final against Spain.
After Ollie Watkins' remarkable winner against the Netherlands, questions have surfaced over whether he should replace the nation's all-time leading scorer in Sunday's match, reports the Mirror.READ MORE: Is Spain vs England on ITV or BBC? Euro 2024 final TV channel and live stream details "If you want to unsettle Spain, you need legs, energy and intensity," he expressed. "So if you could start with another striker, you keep Harry on the bench because if the game settles down going into the second half and still Kane can get a good 30 or 45 minutes, and maybe extra-time and penalties, you bring him in later in the game".
Meulensteen conceded that he doesn't think Southgate will make such a decision, but stressed Spain's potential danger if England do not apply a unified press. "I would make sure that they got players there in the midfield that can back them up and squeeze Spain. If you don't, because one player doesn't and Harry hasn't got the legs, they play around you", the Dutchman stated.
