R. Kelly's lawyer explains why the R&B artist was put on suicide watch after being sentenced this week to 30 years in prison.
‘I have been enduring this for almost two decades,’ one R. Kelly survivor told The Times. ‘I am very happy with the sentence.’She said that she and her partner spoke with Kelly after he was sentenced Wednesday and that “he expressed that he was mentally fine and ONLY expressed concern that even though he was NOT suicidal, MDC would place him on suicide watch .”
“We are in the process of engaging in the court in this matter as his placement on suicide watch is illegal,” she said. Scott Taylor, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons’ offfice of public affairs, said Friday that the bureau, which runs MDC, “does not provide information about conditions of confinement or internal security practices for any particular inmate” for safety and security reasons.Disgraced R&B star R.
“The BOP is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all inmates in our population, our staff, and the public. Humane treatment of the men and women in our custody is a top priority,” Taylor said in an email to The Times.
