SINGAPORE - A Singaporean has been accused of offering nearly $70,000 in bribes to fix the results of basketball games in Thailand and the Philippines.
The court heard that he worked with two others – Sergei Bien Orillo and Leonidez Zapata Avenido – to arrange for the Magnolia Hotshots basketball club to lose their match against the San Miguel Beermen basketball club by nine or more points in the Philippines Cup Final Game 5. Prosecutors said Koa worked with Orillo and Avenido again on or around April 25, 2018, and offered a bribe of 1.5 million Philippine peso to unknown players from the same team.
Prosecutors said the two also engaged in a conspiracy to offer a bribe of US$1,500 to one Jalen Robinson, to arrange for the two teams to have the same outcome.
