A phishing scam targeting more than 100 recipients, including five Cabinet ministers and 12 male political office-holders, has been revealed in Singapore. The scam uses emails with doctored images demanding payment from the recipients.
The Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) in Singapore confirmed that more than 100 recipients, including five Cabinet ministers and 12 male political office-holders, have been targeted with emails containing doctored images since Nov 26. The emails demand payment and use superimposed images of the recipients, taken from publicly available sources, placed in compromising situations.
The scam has also affected public officers across 31 government agencies, including the Ministries of Home Affairs, Education, and Manpower, and statutory boards such as the Building and Construction Authority and Singapore Tourism Board. The Ministry of Health reported that staff from public healthcare institutions have also received similar emails
