'Significant' sewage pollution has been detected near Glasgow, it has been revealed.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency disclosed the pollution incident, which is present on the Kittoch Water in the northwest of South Lanarkshire to East Kilbride, and the downstream White Cart Water, which runs between East Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire.The agency also confirmed that an investigation has been launched following the mass detection of pollution.
"SEPA officers will continue to monitor the situation but are unable to comment further due to an ongoing investigation.Scottish Water has been taking temporary measures to reduce and cease the discharge.They added: "We are carrying out emergency works following the collapse of sewer pipe infrastructure in a field near Philipshill Waste Water Treatment Works in East Kilbride. This resulted in wastewater entering the Kittoch Water.
