The Pittsburgh Penguins captain surpassed Phil Esposito for 10th all-time on the NHL's career points list.
Sidney Crosby became the NHL 's 10th all-time leading points scorer on Thursday night after registering three points in the team's win against the Detroit Red Wings.
Crosby scored a goal and added two assists, including the 1,000th assist of his career, in what was a pivotal win for the Penguins as the team looks to keep its playoff hopes alive. Crosby, who now has 1,591 career points, surpassed Phil Esposito for 10th place, and now sits just 50 points behind Colorado Avalanche legend Joe Sakic for ninth. Crosby's 1,000 career assists rank 14th all time, and his 591 goals rank 21st.
Currently approaching the end of his 19th NHL season, Crosby continues to be one of the most dominant scorers in the business. Across 79 games this year, the 36-year-old has registered 89 points, including 41 goals and 48 assists.With both Detroit and Pittsburgh looking to secure one of the Eastern Conference's last remaining wild card spots, Crosby was able to help lift his team to a critical win after finding an open Erik Karlsson for the game-winning assist in overtime.
The Penguins now sit one point ahead of both the Red Wings and the Washington Capitals with three games left in the season.
