QuantumLeap showrunner martingero chats with Screen Rant about Ben's latest leap in the finale, his romance with Addison, and what season 2 could have in store:

Warning: SPOILERS for the season 1 finale of Quantum Leap.Taking place 30 years after the end of the 1989 series, NBC's Quantum Leap revival aired its first finale on Monday, April 3rd. Season 1 Episode 18 is titled "Judgement Day" and follows Ben as he travels to the past in order to preserve the future. Through a tumultuous series of events, Ben manages to defeat Martinez, salvage his relationship with Addison, and alter the timeline to complete his original mission.

Martin Gero: I think it's the last one. I'm so proud of this final episode. The show is complex, narratively, as far as all the rules and time travel and all of that stuff. So to be able to pull off an episode that kind of concludes the story of the first season in such a definitive way, playing by the rules that we set up, but also in a way that's, I think, deeply emotional, and a real showcase for our cast was just a thrill.

How else did you want to differentiate from the original? And what are some things you wanted to call back to? Martin Gero: Yeah, our idea for next season creates space for the present-day characters to have a lot more room to have the stories be about them. They're kind of exposition characters, for the most part, unfortunately. And I hate that because the actors are so phenomenal.

Is there any chance in the future that we’ll get a glimpse of the timeline when Addison leaped? Or that she'll leap in the current one? It’d be interesting to see that reversal where Ben is her hologram. Martin Gero: It's really hard to talk about season 2 and beyond, and what our ideas are, but I think everything's on the table.

Did you have any leaps in mind that ultimately just wouldn’t fit in the context of the show, but would be fun to explore?
