Ottawa-based Shopify Inc. is laying off about 10 per cent of its workforce, or about 1,000 employees. Most of the jobs affected will be in recruiting, support and sales, the company said. Employees are being notified today. The ecommerce giant saw explosive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic as consumer shopping habits shifted online.
However, that growth has fizzled as the share of ecommerce to physical retail has largely reverted to pre-pandemic projections.
