Isaac Matheson began his company in the year 1867 which began as the Acadia Iron Foundry in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
Matheson moved back to Pictou County in 1867 and established Acadia Iron Foundry. Where they advertised “we prepare orders for crushers, engines, boilers, turning lathes and Acadia cooking stoves.” This business was highly successful, especially for local shipbuilders, including collaborating with his famous ship-building brother-in-law, James W. Carmichael in the construction of the first all-steel schooner manufactured in Canada.
