On Aug. 22, Sgt. Dakota Brinkley of the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office fatally struck 74-year-old Donna Gordon with his vehicle in Yarnell.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety provided a preliminary report revealing new details of the collision where an off-duty sergeant with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office fatally struck 74-year-old Donna Gordon in August in Yarnell.
Brinkley was driving home at the end of his shift when he hit Gordon, the news release said. Brinkley patrols the area around Yarnell, according to the Sheriff's Office. Two DPS troopers, including a drug recognition expert, contacted Brinkley after the collision and he agreed to do field sobriety tests, which were done by the DRE trooper, the Sheriff's Office said the preliminary report states.
Brinkley said he wasn't using his cellphone or the vehicle computer at the time of the collision. The Sheriff's Office said this was confirmed through internal analysis.
