The late Edgar Allison, Shelburne, who was an active serving member of the Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department for 53 years and managed the Shelburne County Arena for 30 years. FACEBOOKSHELBURNE, N.S. — A Shelburne County man is being fondly remembered for the decades he served his community.
“Everybody knew Edgar, especially around the arena. If something needed to be done or if Edgar could help, he was there. He was always willing to help anybody that needed help," Mayor Locke says."He provided guidance to a number of young people who are now working in fire departments in the cities. He will be missed. He was an icon. Everybody liked and enjoyed Edgar very much.”
“Edgar will be missed in the fire service," says Locke."On behalf of all the residents in Shelburne and surrounding area, a sincere thank you to the Allison family for sharing Edgar with us over the years,”“I met Edgar many years ago when I was a staff of the Municipality of Shelburne and he was the fire chief for the Town of Shelburne. We attended many fire committee meetings together," she says.
Smith also knew him as manager of the Shelburne County Arena, where she says he was always very accommodating and kind with the youth, parents and everyone else. Following his death, through social media posts, other local minor hockey associations in the region expressed their condolences over his death, and their thanks for his years of service.
