Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan returns in summer 2023 with Romeo & Juliet and As You Like It.

“Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan has one of the most unique theatre spaces in Canada and we relish our future of light and spectacle,” the company said, adding that the productions will “see what limits will be challenged” and “explore the full technical possibilities available to our site and theatre.
In As You Like it, directed by Jamie King, a group of runaways in Arden forest share the brightness of love through joy, passion and discovery. The exploration of identity and love is brought forward to the present day in this production. The players’ stage series returns for the season, featuring the world premiere of a short original Canadian play exploring the world of William Shakespeare, presented in partnership with Winnipeg’s Shakespeare in the Ruins.Article content
Jessica B. Hills’ first play, The Dark Lady, is directed by Rodrigo Beilfuss. The play brings Shakespeare together with the possible dark lady of his sonnets, Emilia Bassoon, who was one of England’s first published female poets. The two artists come together in an entanglement of collaboration, ambition, envy and love.Tickets for the main stage productions will go on sale in the new year.
