Football Fever | Shabba, Teko and Doc Khumalo to showcase skills at Kasi Cup
READFormer PSL stars, including Doctor Khumalo, Teko Modise and Siphiwe “Shabba” Tshabalala, among others, will feature in an exhibition match that is also scheduled for the day.
Tshabalala, who started his playing career on the streets of Phiri in Soweto, said the importance of grassroots football cannot be overemphasised. “The qualities I took from playing in the streets of Phiri that helped me to become the player I am today were discipline, teamwork and selflessness,” Tshabalala said, adding:
There is raw talent in grassroots football that needs to be nurtured and I commend Red Bull for hosting a tournament such as the Red Bull Kasi Cup that gives amateur players the opportunity they need to showcase their talent. Tournament ambassador Morgan Gould, who is also Sekhukhune United reserve team assistant coach, said: “Playing kasi football really molds you as a person – you get to learn a sense of discipline, responsibility, timing and urgency that you can apply not only on the soccer field, but in life as well. Tournaments such as Red Bull Kasi Cup help remove the youth from the ills of the kasi into a more positive space.
