The San Francisco Opera on Friday will present the California premiere of the Grammy Award-winning opera"The evolution of Steve Jobs" by composer Mason Bates at the War Memorial Opera House.

Newbury sought to capture a visual, emotional"fantasia" that animates how Jobs reimagined what it means for us to connect as a species. Bates, who had a faculty membership at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a long partnership with the San Francisco Symphony, learned a lot about blending electronic and classical music as a DJ and techno artist at San Francisco clubs.
