Giants commit season-high 4 errors behind Logan Webb, drop first home series vs. Colorado since Sep. 2019.
SAN FRANCISCO — With the division-rival Dodgers set to make their first visit to Oracle Park this season starting Friday, the Giants aren’t playing their best baseball.
On Thursday, things unraveled in the fourth, as the Giants committed as many errors as they recorded outs. An inning that could have been over in the span of three or four batters ended up costing Webb 29 pitches. The Giants’ fourth error of the game, with two outs in the sixth, knocked Webb from the game after 100 pitches. Even a team that, according to most metrics, ranked among the worst in the majors defensively this season hadn’t had an inning that ugly.
It also spoiled an otherwise nice debut by newly acquired backstop Austin Wynns, who acted as Webb’s batterymate in his first start behind the dish with the Giants. The 31-year-old catcher came over this week in a trade with the Phillies after the club demoted struggling rookie Joey Bart to Triple-A.
